The art of nanotech
Posted by AG under: Education; High-tech .

On Wednesday, Sir Harold Kroto explained the relationship between Tinkertoys, art, theater and science. For him, they led to a Nobel Prize for chemistry.
Kroto, an expert in nanotechnology, spent Wednesday at UNCG and will spend today at N.C. A&T State University. Our two state universities, which are launching a Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, couldn’t have found a more engaging scientific celebrity. Or someone more passionate about science education.
Kroto, now at Florida State, described how today’s research at the molecular level will lead to better products tomorrow. Like bridges strong enough to withstand earthquakes. And cars, light but strong, safe and fuel efficient. This is exciting stuff, and the students got it.
Kroto’s old college chum Ian McKellan might be better known, but some UNCG students treated Kroto like a rock star anyway.
